Michael Menchaca

American, born San Antonio, 1985


Menchaca graduated with a BFA in printmaking from Texas State University, San Marcos, in 2011. That same year, he had a residency at Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Maine and received a grant from the Artist Foundation of San Antonio. In addition to his prints, Menchaca maintains an online project called MCMVectors, a visual diary that involves creating 1,900 (MCM in Roman numerals) digital vector illustrations. He has also worked as an installation artist. His most recent installation, Crooked American Boarders: The Beaner Express, was shown at Transit Art Gallery, an artist-run residency program in San Antonio, in 2011. Serie Project, Austin, has scheduled Menchaca for a 2012 residency.  Recognized as an up-and-coming talent, Menchaca has had works included in South Texas exhibitions since 2006, including Young Latino Artists 16: Thought Cloud at Mexic-Arte Museum, Austin. Michael Menchaca lives and works in San Antonio.
