WHISPERING VOICES: a Ritual for Our Time

A multidisciplinary collaboration and modern-day ritual seeking to evoke the intimate connection between human beings and the elusive source that links us all.
Hi! We are five artists with a vision, coming together to create a unique art experience in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. We have been working hard for several months on new collaborative works for this immersive live installation of sound, movement, images, and forms, but we need your help so we can rent the necessary video and aerial equipment and cover things like insurance and lighting to make this event a reality.
We are all from different disciplines working together around a single theme: To explore our interconnectedness as human beings — or more specifically, to acknowledge the elusive source that binds us all, and out of which everything we know and experience arises and returns. Throughout the ages, ritual has served to link the individual to this larger context. With religion no longer being part of most Westerners’ hectic everyday life, we have lost this vital means to connect to a deeper reality. Seeking to help bridge the human need for sacred spaces, the five of us are setting the stage for a shared experience that will hopefully result in a new ritual that is of and for our times.
Here’s who we are:
Sol Kjøk - Visual Artist
Katy Gunn – Songwriter, Music Producer, Performance Artist
Autumn Kioti- Interdisciplinary Artist working in Performance including aerial elements
Bob Clyatt- Sculptor
Richard Borge- Digital/Video/Animation
The live performance and exhibition opening will take place on Saturday, October 10. Paintings, sculpture, digital animations and video documentation of the ritual will remain on view through October 25th at The Last Frontier in Greenpoint, Brooklyn: a huge, charismatic former industrial space—103 feet long and 29 feet wide with 18foot ceilings — with a rich patina on the exposed brick built up over the last hundred years.
We are well on our way to finalizing this performance/installation, but we need to reach our Basic goal of $2,900 to make it happen.
- Rental of projector for large scale video
- Rigging a structure for Autumn’s aerial performance art collaboration
- Sound engineering and a sound system for Katy’s performance compositions
- Lighting for performances and lighting the paintings and sculptures
- Real world stuff like insurance, security and a ladder that will let us mount things in the 18 foot ceilings.
If we can exceed our Basic goal and raise more toward our Stretch goal, we will be able to add an additional projector to do some outdoor video on a nearby spaceship-like domed structure, add a shuttle service to bring people from the nearest subway station (15 min walk), make some other enhancements to equipment and really get the word out there about our event. If there’s anything left after that, we really hope to be able pay ourselves a token artist’s honorarium − which is another way of saying that we love what we do but, it’s really nice to get paid for it sometimes whenever that works out.
If we reach our Basic Goal, we’ll be able to pull this off. We’d love to see you at the Last Frontier on October 10! Pick a perk and help make our event a reality. Thank you!
