Seven Pentagons for Expo Chicago 2017

by Monika Wulfers

I am very excited to announce the launch of my Hatchfund campaign to support a light installation titled Seven Pentagons for EXPO CHICAGO 2017.

EXPO CHICAGO, The International Exposition of Contemporary and Modern Art draws thousands of visitors to Chicago’s Navy Pier to view artworks on exhibit by some 135 international galleries. The art fair is open to the public Wednesday, September 13th to Sunday, September 17th.

Building on an installation at Elmhurst Art Museum, I plan to mount seven light sculptures, 164 feet x 10 feet x 10 feet, near the entrance to Navy Pier’s Festival Hall, where EXPO CHICAGO takes place.

I work with neon and use straight glass tubing to construct my installations. My work is not pre-fabricated and ceases to exist when dismantled. For EXPO CHICAGO I am using white and clear glass tubes. I am often asked if I use color. I do, the clear glass tubes will allow the blue argon gas to become visible.

I am trying to raise $16,000 over the next three weeks to fabricate and install the exhibition, and hire a videographer to record and document the installation.

The Foundation for Contemporary Arts has committed $1250, but I am still short of funds to proceed with this amazing opportunity to make my work visible to a large audience and bring my work as a Chicago artist to international attention. My fundraising campaign closes August 31.

I have chosen to work with Hatchfund because I wanted to partner with a non-profit organization whose mission is dedicated to supporting the work of artists. This service is free for artists, provides fully tax-deductible contributions, and one-on-one support to me throughout the fundraising campaign.

I hope knowing that a small percentage fee you pay for the administration of the campaign is going towards a non-profit committed to cultural advocacy will make you feel good about your donation! I am also providing perks for your donations in the form of original artwork to let you know how much your support is appreciated and makes you PART of this exhibition!

Thank you for taking the time to watch my video.

Please know that any amount you are willing to contribute makes a difference, and if you are not able to give, spreading the word about the show can be equally as powerful.

THANK YOU for allowing me to realize my vision, and THANK YOU for your participation and support in helping make this exhibition possible. I look forward to seeing you during Expo Chicago in September. I am going to do this, and YOU are making it possible! Thank you.

Kind regards,

Monika Wulfers
