”I'D RATHER BE DANCING” Classical Ballet Training at the Kirov Academy of Ballet

by Julie Dorman

Aubrey loves ballet. She takes 8 classes per week and performs regularly for her local community. She has had six years of classical ballet training. Receiving intense professional instruction at such a crucial time in Aubrey’s development is critical to her growth as a ballet dancer. All students at her academy, at her level, are encouraged to attend classes outside their current location. This allows students to gain additional training with a variety of teachers, while opening up new opportunities to grow artistically. The Kirov Academy of Ballet was highly recommended by her teacher. After auditioning in January she was accepted into the Kirov Academy of Ballet 2017 Summer Intensive.

The Kirov Academy of Ballet in Washington D.C. is an internationally-recognized faculty teaching aspiring young dancers using the methodology of the St. Petersburg-based Vaganova Ballet Academy, the most famous and influential classical ballet school in the world with a legacy more than 270 years old. Their mission is to prepare students to become the next generation of classically trained ballet dancers.

The Kirov Academy of Ballet 2017 Summer Intensive is a 5 week program. Each day consists of up to 6 hours of dance training; classes may include ballet technique and ballet repertoire with some of the finest ballet instructors from around the world, pantomime, character, contemporary, floor barre, pas de deux, and the history of ballet. Final demonstration classes give dancers the opportunity to show their parents, family, and friends how they have progressed both technically and artistically while attending the program.

You can be part of Aubrey’s extraordinary climb. My target goal is to raise 2,500 for this project. My overall stretch goal is $7,000 to cover all expenses. Your donation will go towards tuition for Aubrey to attend the Kirov Academy of Ballet 2017 Summer Intensive, point shoes, meals, transportation and perk fees.

Perks include, a hand written thank you letter from Aubrey, a signed 8 x 10 professionally shot performance photograph of Aubrey,  a full length performance DVD of “A Christmas Carol” by Hope Garden Children’s Ballet Theatre, tickets to a live performance by Hope Garden Children’s Ballet Theatre and if someone is generous enough to donate $1,000 they will receive all 5 perks, plus a meet & greet and personal thank you from Aubrey at a future performance.

I know going to the Kirov Academy of Ballet 2017 Summer Intensive will benefit Aubrey in ballet immensely and be an experience she will never forget. I thank everyone for their kind and generous support in helping Aubrey continue her climb as a classical ballet dancer. Thank You!
