First Impressions book
- Visual Arts
My exhibition "First Impressions" at be-kyoto gallery in Kyoto, Japan ( www.be-kyoto.jp ) finished in January. Though I did not sell any paintings, the show was really well received. I was honestly moved by the genuine interest of the people that came through the gallery and the respect they showed me as an artist.
I would like to publish a limited edition book featuring the paintings from the show. The book will allow me to reach a larger audience, people that cannot necessarily afford my artwork. It will also commemorate one of my most successful exhibitions and my first in Japan.
The book will be a high quality soft-cover volume of approximately 20 pages showcasing all 16 paintings from the exhibition in full color, plus an essay by me discussing my inspiration for this series. The text will be both in English and Japanese. The book will be printed in an edition of 50 and each will be numbered and signed. It will be available exclusively through be-kyoto gallery and my own website.
Besides the exhibition space, be-kyoto gallery has recently begun publishing art books. They will help me get my book published here in Japan, but there are of course expenses. It will cost approximately 320,000 yen ($3,100) to publish 50 units. This includes photography, design/layout and printing. It will take two to three weeks to execute.
Your tax deductible donation will help me cover the cost of publishing. No gift is too small and I am offering a number of perks including my signature, one-of-a-kind, hand-made postcards, copies of the book and even a painting from the exhibition. This is my way of saying thanks for the support. Should I excede my fundraising goal the additional funds will subsidize packing and shipping costs as well as an artist honorarium.
I have been painting for 20 years. I have a studio and a storage space full of paintings. A book is a way for me to get some of that artwork out in the world and connect with people that couldn't make it to this or indeed any of my exhibitions. I’ve wanted to publish a book of my art for a long time. I think the success of this exhibition in Kyoto has inspired me to finally do it.
I appreciate your time and interest. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any further questions about the project.
