Factory Obscura Presents SHIFT at Current Studio
- Architecture & Design
- Visual Arts
Factory Obscura is a collective of artists and community builders founded in early 2017 to create new forms of audience engagement through fully immersive art experiences. The collective's first installation is SHIFT, opening November 9, 2017 as the Fall Artist in Residence at Current Studio. Spurred by the desire to cause a shift in thinking, and inspired by like-minded experiences Meow Wolf in Santa Fe and City Museum in St. Louis, Factory Obscura will launch a long-term vision for growth when SHIFT opens to the public. This installation will be the first leading the collective toward a permanent location in Oklahoma City, where local artists will be employed to conceptualize, create, maintain, and expand the immersive art experience.
The SHIFT installation at Current Studio takes participants on a journey through the various levels of human consciousness, from feelings of dreamy introspection, to the high energy of being fully awake, and everything in between. The fully immersive environment invites interactive play, both physical and mental, and for people of all ages and abilities. Produced by our team of local artists, the installation provides an art experience like nothing seen before in Oklahoma City.
The Factory Obscura team has been meeting regularly since May to conceptualize and design the SHIFT installation, with construction starting in mid-August. The team includes a diverse range of artistic and practical skills, such as painters, sculptors, welders, video artists, animators, designers, fiber artists, construction specialists, an engineer, and an architect.
This campaign will fund the SHIFT installation at Current Studio, including materials/supplies, equipment, permits, promotions, and most importantly, paying artists. It will also allow us to keep admission to the SHIFT installation free throughout its run at Current Studio. Funds raised beyond the minimum goal will fund artist development to keep us growing into the future, including training, certifications, education, and research & development.

WHAT WE NEED
Factory Obscura has already received some support from early donors and friends, but more funding is necessary to cover all the expenses for a project of this scale. We need your help to reach our minimum goal of $50,000 to fund the SHIFT installation. Our stretch goal of $60,000 will be devoted to artist development for future installations, which are already in the works. This development will provide momentum toward our future permanent home and the long-term vision to create a business model that is self-sustaining and profitable.
In the event that your donations exceed the $60,000 stretch goal, additional funds will be dedicated to developing future Factory Obscura experiences
