Thank you again for helping us commission the Bum Phillips opera. The music will knock your socks off! Workshop A: Act One was presented by Long Island University from Feb. 8-10, 2013, followed by a presentation at the La MaMa Great Jones Rehearsal Studios in Manhattan. I am writing to share that the dates for the 2014 World Premiere have been confirmed! The world premiere of BUM PHILLIPS will be March 13-30, 2014 at The Ellen Stewart Theater in New York.

We still have a ways to go in order to produce the opera and we just launched a new fundraising campaign on USA Projects. This is by far the largest production that my company, Monk Parrots, has undertaken with a tremendous potential for broadening our audience while supporting our mission. But we cannot do it without you. Now is the time that we need your support more than ever. Please help us produce the world premiere by making a tax-deductible gift before the fundraising deadline: June 30,2013. If we do not reach the minimum goal by June 30th, then our project will not be funded. We also greatly need your help directing friends, family, and colleagues to the campaign site, as well.

Please visit the link for all of the gritty details and NEW perks!

Thank you so much! Please help us score another touchdown!

I am happy to report that the "Bum Phillips" LIU Post Workshop (Feb. 8-10) was a great success. The students and staff were amazing collaborators. We learned a lot in rehearsals and received useful feedback during postshow talkbacks. A few images are available on Flickr: http://flic.kr/s/aHsjE5LV43. Hope you enjoy!

On Saturday, Feb. 23, we presented the workshop again, this time to a room full of invited colleagues, family, and friends. The presentation took place in Manhattan at the legendary La MaMa Great Jones Rehearsal Studios. The response was overwhelmingly positive. The lessons and discoveries gained from the entire process have been extremely informative to the development of this new work.

Next step is producing Workshop B: Act II by fall 2013 followed by the premiere in spring 2014, and "it takes a village." We could not have gotten this far without your generosity, love for Bum and the Oilers, and your faith and trust in us. I hope we can count on your continued support in the future.

Thank you so much and please stay tuned for more updates as plans develop.

    All the best,

P.S. I also thought you might get a kick out of the audio clip attached, courtesy of the music director, Kerry Prep. He stopped for a bagel and coffee on his way to our performance wearing a Houston Oilers jersey, and the owner broke out into song. See, even Long Islanders remember the Oilers!

Hi everyone! It's a little early, but mark your calendars for Feb. 8-10, 2013, first concert reading of the Bum Phillips opera. There is talk about presenting the reading at the Producers Club in Manhattan as well. More info: http://www.liu.edu/CWPost/About/News/Campus-Calendar/2013/February/Bum-Philips-Feb-8-10.aspx

On Friday, we sent a letter to Houston Grand Opera proposing Bum Phillips for their 2013-2014 season. We need support to make a Texas premiere happen by fall 2013, and what better company to partner with than HGO? If anybody knows Artistic and Music Director Patrick Summers, say a good word please.

    Happy Birthday, Bum! - 9/29/12

Met with Mia Yoo, Artistic Director of La MaMa Experimental Theater Club, on Friday, April 20. We discussed the possibility of a premiere in their largest space, The Ellen Stewart Theater, for October 2013. Another company is already booked, but there is a chance their plans have changed. We should know in a couple of months if they are confirmed, or if we can have the space. However, Mia did confirm that March 2014 is open. Hopefully, we're getting closer to securing a New York venue!

Peter completed three scenes with Kirk, spent 30 hours on the recordings featuring amazing singers, and today I hand delivered the application for the 2012 New York City Opera Vox Festival. Fingers crossed that we are selected!

Exciting news!...The Department of Theatre, Film, Dance and Arts Management at CW Post University on Long Island has offered to present the first concert reading of BUM PHILLIPS on Long Island and in Manhattan in 2013, and Kirk and Peter are hard at work on preparing excerpts to submit to New York City Opera's VOX Festival, which takes place in November 2012. I also applied to Creative Capital for funding and hope to be invited to submit a full application. Please help us spread the word. Thanks for your support!
