Hey Everybody--We are on the final mix...finally! With the busy summer concert and festival schedule, Graham and I got only sporadic shots at overlapping our schedules for mix down time. But, we've been on the final stretch now the past couple weeks and the plan is for the mixes to go out next week to the mastering house. The mastering engineer listens to all the mixes and touches up the output levels and balances some of the overall equalization for standard release. Then, the master files head over the manufacturing plant along with the graphic design. In an ideal world, this would all just take a couple more weeks...so we've got our fingers crossed. The manufacturing turnaround at Oasis CD is relatively quick, so we may be looking at the middle of next month. Stay tuned...we'll be setting up a CD release party at a couple of the venues where the music was recorded, so we'll let you know about that, too. Talk again soon, and thanks again for being part of this creative project!!!

    Hey Everyone--

I hope you are all having a pleasant summer! It has been nice to be able to get out on some short hikes with this friendly weather...

So, the "Backline" project is in its mix-down phase, which means I've been spending a lot of time indoors, too. We are about half-way done with preparing the recording for mastering and manufacturing. There is so much more work that takes place AFTER you've written, arranged and rehearsed the music, then produced, performed and recorded the live show!

Graham Tobias, owner at MediaStructura, and I have mixing down the tracks from the final show we did in May with the new material. I've also been working on some music taken from shows several years ago, which we weren't able to release at the time, but should be able to include on this upcoming CD, as well. For those, I've been working with Joel Lawitts, who operates an independent studio and has engineered on past Paul Speidel Band projects. (And, yes, as you see in the photos, it's all done on computers with lots of special electronic equipment--no old-fashioned audio tape or mixing boards anymore!)

Once the mix-down process is done, the finished tracks will go to a mastering house, which will digitally encode and prepare them for manufacturing. Then, the factory presses the sequenced music on disc, prints the inserts and assembles the final product. These final steps will take place at Oasis Manufacturing, one of two main CD companies in the country--they have produced five of our ten Paul Speidel Band releases and have done a great job...

The mixes will likely be set to go by the end of August, then another month or so for the mastering and manufacturing. Really looking forward to getting this music out--the band sounds great, and the digital recording quality is amazing--thanks again to everyone for your part in bringing this project to life! Look for one more update once everything is out of the mixing studios and on its way...in the meantime, enjoy your summer!!!

"Backline" update: A week ago Saturday we recorded a unique night of all original Jazz & Blues-based improvisational music with the band. We had a nice turnout with some very vocal folks in the audience (listen for yourself on the record!)... The rough mixes of the show sound great, and the recording quality is super clean…very exciting. We also will have room on the final release to include a couple pieces which we tracked several years back when the musical concept was in its developmental stages, including an alternate version of one of the new ones we recorded last week. Looking forward to this project being put together…the guys in the band sound incredible and are awesome, particularly Ed Lucie, our world-class Bassist (whose credits include Stevie Wonder, Warren Haynes and Buddy Rich!). Mix-down sessions will begin this month, with a view towards the mastering and manufacturing being done by the end of the summer! We'll keep you updated--and thanks so much for being a part of this new music project!

Hello Friends! The "Backline" performance of our new music will be on Saturday, May 27th at 7:30pm here in Newton Centre at The Attic (Upstairs venue at Union Street Restaurant - http://unionst.com). It's a "home field" show for us, so band and audience will be in familiar environs. We're very much looking forward to sharing the music with you all and hope you can come if you live in the area! It's been several months of writing, re-writing and editing the new material for this project...then arranging and copying parts so the music can be rehearsed and tightened up for the show. It's sounding great and the band is just pro-level--I can't say enough how honored I am to have these guys work with me! I'm eager to share our efforts with you all. Hope to see you there!

Hey Everybody! We've got the venue booked a month-and-a-half out for the show to be recorded, but need to finalize a few more details before we formally announce it. Getting rehearsal times and the performance date has been the typical scheduling challenge, given we have a band with three active working musicians! But, it looks like it's all starting to line up...so, more news shortly...stay tuned!!!

Hey Everybody--Just a quick update here to let you know we are underway with the project. Musical arrangements are getting finalized and roughed-out, and we are scheduling rehearsals to start next month. The date for show to be recorded here in the Boston area isn't confirmed yet, but as soon as we hear, we'll pass the information on. We want as many of you as possible to come out and literally be part of the recording! All hoots n' hollers welcome!!! Take care and looking forward to talking again soon--Paul

    Hey Everyone!

Please accept our deepest gratitude for your participation in our upcoming CD project--your involvement means the world to us. And, thanks to you all, we have met our target goal as of this week, and the campaign will officially close out Sunday night. Hatchfund had graciously allowed us to extend the original deadline, so new donors could continue joining the project.

And, please be aware that corporate matching funds and directed giving pending will continue to pass-through to our project whenever received. With the exception of the final CD, donor perk fulfillment will start next week.

We are very excited about moving to the next phase, and we will keep you up on the progress! Thanks very much for being part of our team!!!

    Hey Everybody!

Happy New Year to you and yours--here's hoping you have a great 2017!

I want to thank everyone for their generous contributions to the "Backline" CD project. As you know, it's a challenge to make recordings in today's environment, much less to cut through the din of all the digital noise. Your contributions will go a long way to helping us get this music out there. Creating new music while furthering the traditions of Blues, Jazz and R&B are at the core of our artistic vision and life-long commitment!

And, while we have reached $5,426 in funds, we are still working hard to get to our target goal of $8,500 by January 15. We know there are many music lovers out there who would be supportive of our project--we still need your help to spread the word!

Thank you most sincerely for all your contributions and kind words of encouragement--we are deeply grateful!

    All the best for 2017--

    The Paul Speidel Band
