Alma Dance Theater’s Nutcracker is a unique because of its Cuban heritage and high caliber dancers. The Cuban style of ballet is one of flair and vivacious attitude, dancers bare their souls and their love of movement is tangible and contagious. Our company’s show is comparable to performances presented by other professional companies in large cities, however, we pride ourselves on being accessible to audiences in the suburbs. Every year we present a superb production, resplendent with wonderful dancing, elegant scenery, and exceptional costumes. The Nutcracker is a fantastic opportunity for Alma Dance Theater to collaborate with Alma Dance School and give students the marvelous opportunity to share the stage with professional principle dancers. We aspire to spark a love of ballet in our audiences and inspire young dancers to pursue a career in dance by providing them with beautiful performances of the holiday classic, The Nutcracker.

The show is a production created for the whole family, a holiday tradition with a joyful story that will warm your heart. The Nutcracker’s glorious score was composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and the choreography is set by Vilma Machin and Guillermo Leyva, co-directors of Alma Dance Theater and former Cuban principle dancers. Our beautiful costumes are created locally by the talented seamstress Sabina and our dramatic sets help set the ambiance for the show. Our performances will tell the story of Clara, a young girl whose courageous actions to defend her beloved Nutcracker lead to a wondrous night where all her dreams come to life.

We are planning on hiring thirteen professional dancers for this Nutcracker production. We would like to employ six female corps members, three male corps members, and four principles (two couples for the two main pas de deux). Dance students will make up a large portion of the cast as well and our production draws dancers from a variety of dance schools and all areas of our local community. These professional dancers and students will come together to present this wonderful production and display community coordination and unity. Today in the competitive world of ballet there are often many talented dancers but not enough jobs to employ all of them. It is our goal that through this production we will be able to support and employ dancers for the months ahead. This show will act as a bridge, linking these gifted artists to more opportunities and furthering their careers

The Nutcracker is and will continue to be Alma Dance Theater’s annual December performance. We have presented this show for several years and understand the financial commitment and organization required to make this production a triumph. We are reaching out to you to help us bestow our community with this sensational Nutcracker production and share the happiness of ballet with others. Our minimum goal is $3,500 and our maximum goal is $10,000. If we can meet our minimum goal we will be able to pay for a few of the dancers’ salaries and employ these artists through our nonprofit company, supporting them during this stage of their careers. Even if we exceed our maximum goal, this amount will not cover the total cost of all the dancers’ salaries. Therefore, if we surpass our funding goals, all donations would continue to go directly to Alma Dance Theater for dancers’ compensation. We thank you for your support and we hope to see you at our performances in December!

*As part of our nonprofit mission and through our outreach programs, Alma Dance Theater works with schools and scout troops to give children the opportunity to view professional, classical ballet productions for a reduced price by offering discounted ticket prices for these individuals. We also work with children’s organizations to give children the chance to view the show even if they are unable to afford the cost of a ticket. This is accomplished through free admission to our final dress rehearsals in the theater.
