Alexey Taran has worked as director of Bistoury INC since 2005. Alexey's work with Bistoury has achieved constant recognition and important awards. For example, the multidisciplinary performance BOLO was realized thanks to a Guggenheim Fellowship. In 1996 and 1998, his plays were recognized with awards by the Recontres Choregraphiques in France.

From his early beginnings, Taran's work has been difficult to define, due in great part to his non-structural approach and his constant exploration, research and collaboration with different artists in different media such as film, sculpture, theater and literature. His work, beyond merely distancing itself from the scenic guidelines of contemporary dance, have brought him closer to human beings as a starting point for his artistic creation.

Born in Santa Clara, Cuba, he graduated in 1988 from the National School of Art Havana, Cuba. Among his outstanding teachers: Igor Youskevitch, Azari Plisetski, Alicia Alonso, Martha Bosch, Laura Alonso, Andres William, Lazaro Carreño, Elena Madam, Mirta Pla, among others, are worthy of mention.

Between 1988 and 1990 he was a member of the Ballet Nacional de Cuba as a performer. In 1988 he worked as a ballet teacher in the National School of Dance of the National School of Art Havana, Cuba. Between 1990 and 1992 he was a member of Open Dance Company of Cuba directed by Marianela Boan, as a performer of modern dance and teacher of classic dance. Among the teachers included in his contemporary dance formation are Marianela Boan, Lourdes Ulacia, Jeremy Nelson, David Zambrano, Irene Hultman & Bo Madvig.

In 1992 he was invited to perform with Danzahoy. In the course of that year he taught the technique of classical dance in the Higher Institute of Dance, Caracas, Venezuela.

Between 1992 and 2000 he was the co-director, Ballet and Contemporary Dance teacher of the Formative Experimental Program Workshop of Scenic Arts of Neodanza de Caracas. During this same period he worked as a choreographer and performer in Venezuelan Company Neodanza. In 1994 he was invited, as an advisor, by Colombian company Athanor Danza, directed by Alvaro Restrepo, and he taught at the Higher Institute of Art of Bogota.

In 1999 he founded and directed the Day One Improvisation Festival and of the Weeks of Scramble Improvisation in Theater 8 in Caracas.

In 2000 he was guest choreographer of the Zagreb Dance Company, Zagreb, Croatia.

In 2000 and 2001 he was guest choreographer of Rajatabladanza in Caracas, Venezuela. Since 1991 he has been teaching Level V of Techniques of Ballet and Level IV Stage Design Workshop of the University Level Dance Institute. He has also dedicated his time to designing the lighting for his works and the works of young Venezuelan choreographers and professional companies.

In 2005 he was Ballet Teacher at Teresa Carreño Ballet Company in the Teresa Carreño Theatre Foundation. He has taught improvisation workshops, ballet and choreographic composition in various international academies and festivals: (2000) Conference on the choreographic works of the author. Center for Dramatic Arts, Zagreb, Croatia. (1999) Exodos Festival of Contemporary Performing Art, Lubjana, Slovenia. VI Annual International Contemporary Dance Conference and Performance Festival, Bytom, Cracow, Poland. III International Festival 'Small Forms of Dance Theater' Warsaw, Poland. 16th Dance Week Festival, Zagreb, Croatia. 1992 Teatro La Candelaria, Bogota, Colombia. (1991) Contemporary Ballet of Quito, Ecuador. In 2005 he creates, with various artists (Lino Rojas, visual artist; Carla Forte, filmmaker; Andres Levell, composer; Eduardo Garcia, filmmaker; Vicente Forte, writer) the Project Espacio de Revoltillo Escenico (Scenic Scramble Space), Bistoury, which aims to be, as its name indicates, a Space in the specific environment of improvisation and the authentic real movement. Scramble is not explained anyone with a little humor will understand its sense of playfulness and propensity to merge the general concept of the project.

After more than twelve years of artistic trajectory in Caracas, Venezuela, he moves to Miami in 2007, continuing to develop the research of the Company ERE. Bistoury, of which he is currently the artistic director. He has been presenting different performance proposals and Video Art Installations with local artists of Miami, while at the same time he has continued to develop the artistic project BOLO (Mechanical Planet vs. Intro-ghetto Action) a multidisciplinary performance achieved thanks to a Guggenheim fellowship, and it has been presented in urban spaces, galleries and theaters in the city of Miami and New York, as well as internationally in Europe and Latin America.

In 2008 he was commissioned by Miami Light Project and the Adrienne Arsht Center to create a work called Symbol in which aerial dance, video, music and scenic elements take possession of the stage. And in 2010 was commissioned for the MTC Commissioning Music/USA Program and FUNDarte to create Assassins for One Night a medium length film and live performance. Alexey has also achieved a major development in the area of editing and video, standing out in the artistic production of different film projects such as the Bloodbath Test winner of the Plomo Contest as the Best Film Script, organized in New York, and Urban Stories Los angeles Movies Awards 2011 and Official Selection Marbella International Film Festival 2011, both directed by the Forte brother sister team of filmmakers.
