The Warriors: A Love Story
- Theater Arts
The Warriors: A Love Story is an evening-length multimedia performance by ARCOS Dance exploring humanity’s potential for acts of profound destruction and creation. This experimental documentary is inspired by the lives of J. Glenn Gray, a Colorado philosophy professor and WWII veteran whose book on modern battle remains highly relevant to this day, and his wife Ursula, a German survivor of the Allied bombing of Dresden, whose passion throughout her life was dance. The visceral, athletic choreography of Curtis Uhlemann and Erica Gionfriddo interacts dynamically with an original script, music, and video by Eliot Gray Fisher, grandson of J. Glenn and Ursula, to chronicle the search for understanding the complexity of a history that we must not forget. Highly personal yet tapping into the universal, The Warriors: A Love Story immerses its audience in moments of intense beauty and horror, provoking thought and honoring everyone affected by war and those acting to end it.
The show will premiere February 8-17, 2013, at the Center for Contemporary Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and the set (with its active video projections) will be open to the public as an exhibition in CCA’s Muñoz-Waxman Gallery throughout the run. The project’s budget allows for an increased number of artistic collaborators and technical demands than previous ARCOS productions. We appreciate any amount you can give to help us realize this challenging work, and we are especially grateful if you can spread the word about it by sharing this page to your network via social media or email. Remember, your donations are tax deductible—and the project is eligible for matching funds at certain points in the process, during which your gift is effectively doubled. If we are able to raise more than our current goal, any excess will be used both to supplement artist fees for dancers, musicians, actors, and designers, as well as to further the longer term vision of taking this production to Europe after its premiere here in the United States. Thanks so much, and we look forward to being in touch regularly over the next few months as we create this show!
