Rasmuson Foundation

The Rasmuson Foundation was created by Jenny Rasmuson in May 1955 to honor her late husband, E. A. Rasmuson. Jenny and E. A., Swedish Covenant missionaries who both emigrated from Sweden at the turn of the century, met in Yakutat, Alaska. While E. A. became a successful banker and influential Alaskan business leader, he and Jenny never lost their missionary ethic. Together they learned that the true measure of a contented life was doing for others and making a difference in the lives around you and in those lives that would come after you. Their son, Elmer, a banker, nurtured the small family foundation. When he died in December 2000, at age 91, he left much of his personal fortune, more than $400 million, to the foundation.
